geovanni-ceretti: Alessandro Magnasco - Prayer of the Penitent Monks. The tension between their penitence of spirit and the surrounding darkness of the world is very engaging; Magnasco is one of my favorite painters, although he may not have the precise finesse of Jacques-Louis or Caravaggio, his mastery of drama and contrast compensates.
